How does it work?
Simple: You click on the “Sell” link, fill the form and voila! Just make sure you did not make any error and you entered the correct email address because you won’t be able to modify the ad once it is posted and the email address is the only way for buyer to contact you.
Is it safe to give my email?
Sellers email addresses are not displayed on the website. Buyers contact sellers using a form on the sell page. So until you reply to them, they won’t know your email address.
What about SPAM?
We all hate spammers and as someone who is getting on average 220 SPAM email per day, I can tell you this: I hate them with a passion. That is why we had to add a reCapcha validation at the end of the forms to prevent unsolicited emails. It is a necessary evil to keep our email boxes clean!
I posted an ad and it does not show up!
It is normal. All ads have to be manually approved. This is our way to keep the site clean and also serves as a first line of defense against scammers. Typically, ads should be approved within an hour or two.
Why did you create this site?
I used to have a 24mmTS-E lens that I loved but wanted to sell to finance a 135L. I unsuccessfully placed ads on various forums. I was about to give up when I had the idea to post an article on canon5dtips about it. Within a few days, I had 4 potential buyers and managed to sell the lens to a local photographer.
This is how I realized the site potential to sell used gear but I didn’t want to change it into something it wasn’t. This is how I ended up creating a sister site, the market, to manage these transactions.
